Q1. Different Types Of Replication?

  1. server – to – server replication
  2. workstation – to – server replication

Pull – pull

Pull – push

Pull – only

Push only

In pull – push, the initiating server replicator pulls changes from the called server and the pushes data to the called server, only the initiating servers does te work writing in both servers.

Q2. When A User Logs Into 'lotus Notes Web Browser', It Opens With The Following Error "done But With Errors On Page". He Cannot See His Mail. When He Tries It On Another Machine, It Works. This Tells Me

A If possible, try another browser from the same machine (e. g. ‘Firefox’). You should take note that ‘IE’ often creates 'strange' things due to security settings. Since you have one working and the other doesn’t, try to compare the 2 sets of settings. I recommend ‘Firefox’ if possible for this use. It is compatible with ‘iNotes’ 5 and 6 or default mailboxes.

Q3. I Have A User Who Is Getting 'doc Links' To The Notes In 'db', But The 'doc Link' Doesn't Come Through. It Is Replaced By The Following "document Link Db Name, View". I Have Replaced Her Mail Template

A Check the field 'format preference for incoming mail' in the main directory first. It will probably work best with the setting 'Keep in sender format', unless there are some strange routings via ‘SMTP’ or others that might change the original format.

Q4. Traction Log Problems - Troubleshooting?

Invalid traction log path : Check the log path – path is correct – restart the server

Not solved, edit TRANS LOG - PATH setting in notes.ini to point to different log path – restart the server

Traction log damaged or corrupted : We can see the error message “Traction log damaged or corrupted “ on the console prompt - restart the server

If continues – delete the traction log file – restart the server- server create the new log file- load fix up – perform the database backup.

Q5. I Am Working In Notes Version

A Check if the ‘not processed folders’ are “private”. If it is, the server will have trouble reading them. Hence, there will be no trfer of the folder info. The documents on the other hand will be trferred if the terms are there, but then it’s located in ‘ALL DOCUMENTS’ view.

Q6. What Is Ecl?

Execution control list

Q7. I Have A User That Uses Both A Laptop And Desktop Computer. He Was Able To Replicate Just Fine But Encountered A Weird Issue. The User Reads A Message On The Desktop, And Then Switches Back To Laptop

A You can add “REPLICATOR_SYNC_UNREAD=-1” to the ‘Notes. ini’ file. You can set it in the database preferences as well with the 'replicate unread marks' to all servers.

Q8. What Is Directory Assistance?

Directory assistance : Directory assistance is a feature a server can use to look up information in a directory other than a local primary Domino Directory (NAMES.NSF)

Q9. Can External Ldap Directory Be Used In Domino ?

No

Q10. We Are Migrating To Exchange And Include Several Users With Local Archives On Their Mailboxes. Most Of These Users Need The Archives, But I Can't Seem To Figure Out A Way Of Doing It At All. Is There

A The ‘exchange migration wizard’ (free with exchange) can read the mail in archive and create a “. pst” file. It was done as a test one time by putting the archive on the server and then changing the ‘person doc’ that was the user’s mail file. This was done on a test system that wasn't running the live mail.

Q11. Tractional Logging?

Traction logging captures all the changes made to a database and writes them to a traction log. Tractions are reordered sequentially in the log files, which is much quicker than database updates to random.

Q12. Components Or Tasks Involved In Domino Clustering?

Components : Server : Domino 6.5 or Domino 6 enterprise server or Domino 6 utility server

Cluster with LAN or WAN - Tcp IP, It should be with same domain and share a common domino directory, Server should have adequate CPU and Memory capacity.

Client : Notes client must run notes release 4.5 or later.

Q13. Difference Between Refresh Design And Replace?

Refresh : Refresh page contain up to date information

Replace : Change the existing one to new one

Q14. I Am Trying To Send An 'ical' File Using Lotus Notes

A Lotus notes version6 (or higher) is ‘iCal’ compatible and can exchange calendar information over the internet with other ‘iCalendar’ compatible applications such as MS Outlook 2000 (or higher). If you are exchanging calendar information with a user over the internet, you would receive an e-mail message containing an ‘. ics’ file attachment. That ‘. ics’ file attachment is an ‘icalendar’ standard file, and it contains calendar information for an event. To process this ‘. ics’ file attachment, you can do the following:

Open the e-mail containing the attachment;

Right-click the attachment;

Select view from pop-up, this will display a "Scheduling Notes in ‘iCalendar’ File" window;

Select ‘Import all’, this will generate a Lotus Notes meeting invitation that you can process, to add the event to your personal Lotus Notes calendar.

Q15. What Is Clustering?

Group of two or more server provides the users with constant access.

Domino cluster continually communicate with each other to keep updated on the status of each server and to keep database replicas synchronized.

Q16. What Are The Different Types Of Acl Access?

Manager, Designer, Editor, Author, Reader, Depositor, No access

Q17. If Replication Between 2 Databases Does Not Work, Then What Are The Troubleshooting Steps Taken?

Check replication history and log,

Replicate with server ……not responding : check network communication

Check cross certification for the database

Miscellaneous event log

Q18. Difference Between Manager Access And Designer Access?

Manager : can create the Database with manager access, delete, encrypt and compact the documents

Designer : can access designer elements like view ,forms…

can create the FT index , he can delete the documents with manager access.

Q19. I Have A User That Tried To Delete An E-mail. She Got A "type Mismatch" Error. The E-mail Then Gets An "x" Next To It And If She Refreshes The Screen, It's Deleted. Why Did She Receive The Error Messa

A It seems like a typical "refresh design" issue. In the mailbox, go to “File/Database/Design/Refresh Design” and choose the ‘mail server’, then ‘validate’. If that does not solve the issue, repeat the manipulation but choose “Replace Design” instead, choose the ‘mail server’ and the proper ‘mail template’, and then ‘validate’.

You can also do it in another way. Go to ‘Tools’, ‘preferences’, ‘calendar’ and ‘To Do’, and then to ‘Auto process’. The ‘Automatic Inbox’ management will be blank. Choose an option in there again and it will work fine.

Q20. Resource And Reservation Databases, Busytime Databases?

Resource reservation database : Users can schedule and manage meeting resources. User can select the resource and reserve the time for it ( RESRC60.NTF )

Busytime databases : When not in a cluster, each server contains a database that includes scheduling information for all users who use that server as their mail server.

Q21. We Keep A Replica Of The 'domino Directory' (address Book) In Our Local Machine Along With The Mail Database. It Is For Use While Outside The Office. Recently, I Started Getting Complaints From The Us

A Check if there is no ‘enabled archiving’ on the db in any server, and if there is any single/’standalone’ users replicating only which can pull the data from the main directory. Check the replication history on the (each) server, as a minimum to identify who replicates where and the directions.

Q22. Where Can I See The Recertify Id Notification Period, And How Can I Change This?

A Go into the ‘Domino Administrator’ and to the ‘Configuration’ tab, and then choose ‘certification’ on the right hand side. Choose ‘ID properties’, select the ‘ID file’, enter the password, and then it will display the expiration date.

To recertify, choose ‘Certify’ then you must choose the ‘certifier id’ file. Usually ‘certifier id’ enters its password, then choose the ‘ID file’ you wish to recertify. After that, enter its password, amend the expiration date and hit ‘certify’.

Q23. Difference Between Replica And New Copy?

New replica have same replica ID, New copy will not the same.

Q24. Difference Between Editor Access And Author Access?

Editor : He can create , read and modify the document, he can delete the document with Manager access.

Author : He can read the document and delete the document if author is the owner of the document.

Q25. I Have A User That Is Receiving E-mails In The 'inbox' Which Are Already "read", Or "black". I Tried 'replace Design', 'upgrade Folder Design', And Checked To Make Sure That The Flag "mark Documents R

A From the ‘Workspace’, ‘right click’ the mouse on the database and select ‘Database’, then ‘Properties’. Under the fourth tab, make sure the "Do not mark modified documents as unread" is checked. Under the seventh tab, make sure the "don't maintain unread marks" is not checked.

Q26. Mail Routing ?

A server base task that allows users to exchange mail via a LAN, WAN , Gateways.
